Over the next decade, Power to Change will use £150 million provided by the Big Lottery Fund to deliver grants and practical support to encourage new community businesses to start and enable existing ones to grow and becoming more self-sustaining.
Across the country there are examples of communities coming together to save local shops from closure, setting up community centres to provide a place for people to meet, and developing community-led housing to help regenerate local areas.
Power to Change wants to help these organisations to thrive.
Power to Change also wants to help more people to set up businesses that respond to local need and change the place in which they live for the better.
The Initial Grants Programme is designed to help new and existing community businesses that are in a position to make a step change in their journey towards long-term sustainability within the next six months.
To apply your organisation must be a community business which is community controlled, trading or seeking to trade and become more sustainable, have a draft business plan and be able to explain its social impact.
The initial grants programme provides grants of between £50,000 and £500,000.
As experts in helping to develop community businesses, Pulse can advise in making an application and in providing grant funded support under the programme.
