Big Potential Breakthrough

Pulse is an approved provider for Big Potential Breakthrough; a £10 million BIG Lottery grant fund managed by the Social Investment Business. Pulse can help with applications and provide support to eligible VCSE organisations that are wanting prepare for social investment.

What is Big Potential Breakthrough?

Big Potential Breaktrhough is designed for VCSE organisations with the aim of improving their sustainability, capacity and scale in order that they may deliver greater social impact.

Big Potential Breakthrough aims to raise awareness of the social investment market and support VCSEs that want to prepare themselves for social investment.

A grant from the fund will help VCSEs at the beginning of their social investment journey, to get specialist and tailored support to become investment ready. Investment ready is a term used to describe organisations that want to grow and expand and who develop their capacity to the extent that they will be successful in gaining external (repayable) investment.

This means understanding the requirements of banks and other financial institutions when looking for investment and includes knowledge about how to develop business plans to secure external finance and communication with investors.

Funding Support Available 

Big Potential Breakthrough targets VCSEs that are both at an early stage of their investment readiness journey and those that are further along that journey, that are seeking to raise up to £500,000 in external investment. Grants are in two stages:

Over both grants, VCSEs will not usually receive more than £75,000. Grants will not cover costs relating to the ongoing delivery of work, only work relating to the organisation’s investment readiness.
