Schools Development Social Return

Laing O’Rourke was bidding to win a tender to develop a number of new schools under the previous Governments Building Schools for the Future Programme. As part of the bid, Laing O’Rourke needed to define the likely social return of the scheme in order to evidence the value and impact its approach to construction and development would have on the local community.

Key Actions

Pulse Regeneration was contracted to assist Laing O’Rourke with the bidding process, and to help in researching and identifying a range of community development and local training/employment projects, and the potential development of an IT recycling social enterprise. As part of the work, Pulse Regeneration was commissioned to identify the potential social impact of the scheme and the added value elements of the project so that these could be identified in the tender documentation and provide Laing O’Rourke with a competitive advantage in terms of the bidding process. An effective forecast SROI was undertaken for the project including identifying a range of likely impacts and proxies that could be used to calculate a social return.
