The Lauries Centre
The Lauries group were based St Laurence’s Parish Centre, which had reached the end of its economic life and was due for closure. The Lauries required assistance in developing a new community centre, which could offer wider opportunities for their community.

Through the support and advice provided by Pulse, we have seen that in the real world that for a project of this nature to be successful it needs to be both community-led and financially sustainable to provide long-term benefit.

Key Actions
Pulse helped with all aspects of the development, including initial concept development, arranging best practice visits, a feasibility study to assess different development options, development of a project business plan and securing over £3m of capital funding, legal structure development including help in forming a board and board training, setting up systems, recruitment and marketing. Pulse also developed two business plans to operate new social enterprises within the centre, including a conferencing and events business, and the Atrium Café.
