Pulse Regeneration has completed an independent Evaluation of the BASIS funded South Yorkshire Community Accountancy Service (SYCAS). The Community Accountancy Service is delivered in partnership across the South Yorkshire region by Voluntary Action Sheffield, Voluntary Action Barnsley, Voluntary Action Rotherham and Doncaster CVS. The Evaluation was needed to assess the impact of the service, to identify future demand from voluntary and community organisations and to support a funding bid for a year-long extension of the service. The research identified a continuing need amongst VCOs in South Yorkshire for the service, as well as the added value provided by SYCAS, including the transfer of skills to staff and trustees of VCOs in the sub-region. Examples of best practice researched helped to highlight potential future service areas, such as tax and exemption advice. The report provided a number of key recommendations to support the future development of the service and the Evaluation was beneficial for the partners to prove the impact of the service to the funder, the Big Lottery.
