Production of a Business Development Plan for the SureStart Chinnbrook Centre in Yardley Wood (South Birmingham), outlining how the Centre could work towards financial sustainability given the new locality agenda being put in place by Birmingham City Council and a reduction in core funding. Following this, we provided further support through a Trustee Skills Audit that identified a need to introduce additional business acumen to the board, and a follow-up Governance Review that highlighted a need to broaden the charity’s objects to better reflect changes in local need. This process also included identifying the benefits of creating a trading subsidiary to assist with income generation, and the need to separate out core activities from those of a more commercial nature that could assist the organisation adapt to change and implement a more financially sustainable business model.
