Walk the Talk Conference
4 December 2007
Building on previous work, Pulse Regeneration Consultant, David Waterfall, attended the annual Social Audit Network (SAN) Walk the Talk conference in Birmingham today. The conference focused on encouraging participants to consider the importance of social accounting for the third sector in demonstrating its value to its stakeholders. The conference challenged participants to think how through using social accounting they could demonstrate to those they work with exactly what their organisation does and how successful they are at doing it. Keynote speakers included Kevin Robbie (Office of the Third Sector, Malcolm Hayday (Charity Bank), Alison Ball (Furniture Resource Centre), and John Boyle (Midlands Coop).

Business in the Community Workshop
7 November 2007
Pulse Managing Director, Chris Hart, delivered a Business in the Community workshop targeted at Merseyside based social enterprises today as part of the Business Bridge Programme Merseyside. The workshop was delivered for free to assist local organisations learn about how to go about business planning for their organisations, increase their practical understanding of financial tools, and to develop an appreciation of the benefits in becoming more financially sustainable.

Bootle Development Support Role

Pulse Regeneration has recently been awarded a contract to provide a six month Development Support Role for Bootle Community Sports Stadium Ltd (BCSS). This is an exciting role and enables Pulse Regeneration to provide BCSS with hands-on support and guidance, assisting BCSS to develop new partnerships, undertake negotiations and to take the project forward. In addition the role will assist in identifying funding sources to assist in reopening the Stadium as a mixed-use community and sports facility. This role builds upon a three-year business plan that Pulse Regeneration has produced to support negotiations with the local authority over transferring the disused Bootle Stadium to BCSS.

Looking Back, Stepping Forward Conference

Chris Hart, Pulse Regeneration Managing Director, recently helped in facilitating a public discussion at the Looking Back, Stepping Forward Conference today to help Town Teams in the Yorkshire Forward area consider what has worked well in terms of the renaissance programme, reflecting on what has been achieved, looking at best practice, as well as ‘stepping forward’ to forge a platform for future direction. Pulse Regeneration is also part of the programme delivering the Great Resources workshops to Town Teams, which includes how to develop a Town Team project as well as how to successfully secure funding.

Coalville Community Education Centre Consultation Event

Pulse Regeneration has been commissioned to develop a Feasibility Study and Business Plan for the Coalville Community Education Centre. A consultation event was held on 5th October 2007 at the opening of the new show home at Weston Heights, Coalville in Stoke-on-Trent . New and existing residents were asked to complete a survey to express their views about the redevelopment of the Centre, currently on the site of Weston Coyney Infants School. The day was a success, allowing residents to feed back their views on the Centre and helping to raise the profile of the project.

Thorne Moorends Regeneration Partnership Secure Funding

Pulse Regeneration has been asked to undertake a funding application for TMRP to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust to buy the former Pharmacy on Bridge Street, Thorne. This shop unit was vacant and on the site of the new Community Quarter, recently opened and refurbished by TMRP. The application was successful with £100,000 of funding secured to purchase the building and re-open it as a social enterprise selling recycled furniture to the local community.

Trinity Methodist Church Funding Success

Pulse Regeneration has been working with Trinity Methodist Church, Ellesmere Port, for the past year on a scheme to allow greater usage of the Church by the local community, beginning with the development of a feasibility study and plans to reconfigure the Church. The concept is to make the building a more welcoming space, and build on the Mission of the Church. Following the applications for funding from Methodist Church funds, Trinity Methodist Church has been successful in securing capital funding towards the scheme, which Pulse Regeneration is now working on to secure further match funding.

Delivering Procurement Support in Merseyside

Pulse Regeneration has been commissioned by Merseyside Single Procurement Vision (MSPV) to provide a procurement support role for a number of Merseyside based social enterprises, which focuses on assisting the environmental sector. The MSPV programme is a major new initiative that will help Merseyside social enterprises and voluntary sector organisations (the third sector) to expand their trading activities to win and keep public sector contracts.

40% off Business Plans

At the end of the month Greater Merseyside Enterprises (GME) ceases trading, with most of its activities transferring to the new Regional Business Link. Pulse Regeneration however remains an 'Approved Supplier' for Business Link, which means we are able to offer 40% off the fees of certain business planning commissions in Merseyside.
A recent example was for The Alternative Group, for whom we developed a business plan to explore the viability of developing a conferencing facility as a social enterprise with a focus on providing employment and training opportunities for local people. Mike Clarke of The Alternative Group commented;
"We needed additional support to bring together our social enterprise business model. Pulse Regeneration proved adept at understanding the needs of our businesses, both existing and proposed. Lisa’s Tae Kwon Do Succes

In November 2006 Lisa Roberts, Pulse’s Graduate Regeneration Consultant, achieved a Silver medal in the Tae Kwon Do British Championships for Ladies Blue Heavyweight Sparring. More recently earlier this month Lisa won at the North Wales Championships, also for sparring. Lisa continues to train and compete throughout the year and is working towards her Red Belt Grading later this month.
Referee confirms Lisa’s victory.

TMRP Announce Move to new Community Quarter

TMRP has moved into the new Community Quarter building in Thorne. Following Pulse’s Feasibility Study that recommended the organisation purchase the building, TMRP have now moved to the former Health Centre in Thorne. The building is being redeveloped as a hub that will provide services for the community of Thorne and Moorends in a easily accessible, central location. The community quarter will house a number of community and voluntary organisations, together with information centre and meeting rooms.
